Buea floods are natural phenomenon – geologist.
The social media was awash with reports that the Buea Mountain was going to erupt again after floods carrying volcanic ash snaked their way towards parts of the town following the down pour on Tuesday.
This created a wave panic among the population, some of whom were prepared to move out of the city for fear of the unknown.
Their fears were allayed yesterday after Bernard Okalia Bilai, accompanied by Buea mayor, Mafani Njie and geological experts visited the flooded sites and concluded that it was a natural phenomenon. The floods had to divert from their normal path in gutters because of blockages along the way, a geologist, George Mafany Teke , explained.
He said the volcanic ash washed down the mountain should be no source of panic for the population. The floods will take their normal course when there is good drainage, he said.
