CAMWATER targets customer satisfaction.

Within the frame work of the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals, the government of Cameroon came up with a 1,760 billion master plan for water supply for urban and sub urban areas, with the objective to increase supply rate by 85 percent throughout the country. The master plan had to do with modernizing the production infrastructure, the development of new centres and improving access to potable water through the multiplication and facilitation of water service pipes. This had to go through an assessment of water needs, followed by an evaluation of water resources, assess needs and resources, investments needs by 2022 and 2032 and then set investment priorities.

In accordance with this master plan which now serves as the road map of government’s water policy, Camwater started by upgrading the deteriorated production equipment as well as strengthening their maintenance and upkeep. This led to an improvement in the quality supplied by Camwater and advise customers who still complain of poor quality water to equally change their supply pipes.

In order to improve water supply to the metropolitan cities of Douala and Yaounde, new water plants were constructed to reinforce the existing ones and thereby boost the volume of water supply and avoid shortages. It is as such that a new water treatment plant was constructed in Yato, on the outskirts of the city of Douala, along the road to the South West Region. The project was carried in two phases. The first phase tapped water from the river Mungo to supply an additional 50,000 Cubic litres a day to Douala, and a city whose daily demand for water is estimated at 250,000 Cubic litres a day.

The second phase still taking water from the same source, supplied an additional 100,000 Cubic litres a day. It was funded to the tune of FCFA 52bn by the Eximbank of China. The most visible part of the upgraded supply infrastructure is the 45 metre-long aqueduct over the River Wouri, with a huge pipe running parallel to the Wouri Bridge further embellishing the edifice with picturesque scenery.

In Yaounde, production was increased with the extension of the Akamnyada water treatment plant and later on the construction of the Mefou water plant. The 400 billion-project saw the capacity of the Akomnyada Water treatment plant from 100,000 Cubic litres a day to 135,000, a day.

Meanwhile, the new plant at Mefou supplied an additional 50,000 Cubic litres taking the count to 185,000 Cubic litres of water supplied to Yaounde every day.

Camwater has equally been working on improving its services to customers notably creating a website with modalities for subscription and an after-service contact for customers with complaints. It equally organized a meeting on ethics to avoid management errors for some senor staff, all in an effort to cultivate a spirit of good governance and quality service to customers.
