Indeed when post and pre African traditional pundits and studies rated age as a prerequisite to wisdom, they were not an inch far from the truth. Cognizant of the turbulence which has marred human dealings in today’s society, it is of utmost importance to acknowledge your successes irrespective of the flaws.
Mokun Njouny Nelson, manager of Foundation Radio, one of North West region’s private radio stations, is also a writer and conference speaker. He turned 50 on June 15 and thought it was the ripe age to celebrate his life with family members, friends, well-wishers and colleagues. The event which held at the Fomunyoh Foundation hall was described as one to celebrate a man whom many have termed a Solomon of modern times.
Likening Mokun Njouny to a guru such as the iconic Martin Luther, veteran journalist, Dinga Charles, just like other speakers, referred to him as the brain on which many can lean. As true as it is to say grey hair and age go together so too will it be unfair to talk men in their 50s without calling him.
To Mokun Njouny, it’s a celebration of not just life’s achievements but challenges and most especially knowing that these challenges culminate in a better future.
The celebrant who is also a PSS Mankon Alumni further said he is bent on not just achieving more but also taking stock of where he got things wrong in a bid to better the bleak future. "Celebrating a golden jubilee calls for more reflections so as to ascertain real success", he said.
For his part, the President of Cameroon Association of English speaking Journalists (CAMASEJ) North West chapter, Ambe Macmillan, urged media practitioners to emulate his example and shun all forms of uncultured approaches in attaining life’s worries vis-a-vis the media practice. He further urged journalists to emulate the celebrant’s gesture and take off time despite their busy work load to celebrate life which he says remains a rare commodity as many keep dying in the nations around the world on a daily basis.
