Municipal authorities take oath of office.
Newly elected mayors and their deputies drawn from all the six council areas in Bui Division in the North West Region on Monday, March 16th , converged on the Bui High Court premises in Kumbo to take their oath of office.
The occasion chaired by Bui High Court President in the presence of the Senior State Counsel and their closest collaborators was attended among others, by the Bui Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, Lanyuy Harry Ngwanyi. The six mayors and their deputies, before the judicial authorities, pledged to carry out their functions in compliance with the dictates of the rules and regulations in force. Despite the security challenges, the oath-taking exercise went on hitch-free, however, void of the usual ecstasy characteristic of such events. The mayors and their deputies shall henceforth perform their functions as civil status registrars, establishing birth and death certificates and celebrating civil marriages. The municipal executives shall have the herculean task of implementing on the ground the new text on decentralization which is a hot potato and the application of the Special Status in their areas of competence, the six councils being in the Anglophone Regions. Suffice to note here that all the six councils were won by the ruling CPDM party during the last February 9 joint polls. The mayors elected to head the councils are as follows:
Mborong Vensius Bongkiyong for Kumbo; Wirngo Buba Kibo for Jakiri; Ngum Jerome Njioh for Elak-Oku; Banboye William Sewong for Mbiame, Nchanji Ndi Germanus for Nkor-Noni and Bongfan Stephen for Nkum.
