Stemming the spread of Covid-19: Defence force vow to enforce preventive measures.
The minister delegate sat the presidency in charge of the defence, Joseph Beti Assomo, says the defence forces will do everything possible to enforce the implementation of government’s Coronavirus plan. He gave the assurance in Yaounde on Thursday, March 26, 2020, during a special meeting to assess internal measures taken to combat Coronavirus within the military.
The decision is coming after it is increasingly being observed that many Cameroonians continue to deliberately violate the 13-point preventive measures outlined by the Prime Minister on March 17, 2020, to slow the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic in Cameroon.
During the meeting, the members of Cameroon’s defence and security forces were challenged to leave no stone unturned to enforce the government preventive measures notably: The closure of liquor outlets, restaurants and places of leisure at 6pm, the prohibition of gatherings of more than 50 people, overloading in buses and taxis, securing places of isolation as well as regulating movement of consumers in the markets in partnership with the relevant authorities.
Within the defence and security forces, it was agreed that a scientific committee will be set up to standardize the health protocols applicable to troops on the ground. The men in uniform will also need to be more aware of barrier gestures with the support of a military health professional.
The special meeting was attended by the secretary of state in the Ministry of Defence in charge of the National Gendarmerie, Galax Etoga, the General Delegate for National Security Martin Mbarga Nguele, the Directorate General of External Research, the National Firefighting Brigade as well members of the prison administration.
