Anglophone Crisis: Separatists forfeit diplomatic gains!
The barbaric killing of several persons attributed to Ambazonia forces in Oku, Bui Division, for exercising one of their civic duties- voting, detracts from the positive perception and sympathy garnered after a faction declared a ceasefire over coronavirus
The diplomatic edge secured by Anglophone separatists over the Cameroonian government by declaring a ceasefire “in order to permit international humanitarian preparation for the COVID-19 prevention” is now on very shaky ground.
That advantage has been creamed off by recent acts of barbarism exhibited by Ambazonian forces on the ground.
The barbaric killing of several persons attributed to Ambazonia forces in Oku, Bui Division, for exercising their civic duties, detracts from the positive perception and sympathy garnered after a faction, led by Ebenezer Akwanga, declared a ceasefire over coronavirus.
In response to a 24 March call by UN scribe, Antonio Guterres, for a global ceasefire to allow for concerted worldwide action against the Coronavirus pandemic, Akwanga said his group, SOCADEF, was declaring a ceasefire from March 29 to April 12“in order to permit international humanitarian preparation for the COVID-19 prevention”.
But before that cessation of hostilities could begin holding, the social media was awash with unsettling news about several persons having been killed in an ambush in Oku, North West Region of Cameroon by armed men suspected to be members of the Ambazonia armed separatist movement.
According to sources, the armed men ambushed an armoured car transporting some councillors of Oku as well as a local Elecam official in the locality leaving several dead including a soldier.
“Four survived the accident but were later taken and killed by the separatists who arrived the scene first. Some were even beheaded,” a local source who pleaded to remain anonymous said.
The source said two deputy mayors were killed amongst them Taal Timothy, as well as other councillors.
Those kidnapped are; Shimbo Godlove Nchi, Ebsiy Fai Patrick, Derrick Wiltof, Mbuh Fred Ngek and Ngwei Clovis.
Among those killed are ; Taal Timothy Babey, Babey Julius Ghoyume, Ngobe Isaac Chioghe, Ngek Constantine Njobam, Kedia Kenneth Buji, Ndifon Samuel, Tamfu Kingsley, Babila Desmond (soldier)
They are accused of taking part in March 22 Legislative rerun despite a “ban” placed by Ambazonia forces in the areas.
This drift into acts of barbarity and gruesome killings by the Ambaboys who are clearly sponsored by Anglophone separatists abroad is tantamount to scuppering the “Ambazonia Revolution” which in its heyday appeared to be scoring diplomatic point after point. The latest acts terror on the ground only give weight to a suit by victims of the armed conflict praying a US Court to freeze funding sources of separatists and eventually prosecute them for terrorism.
