Water crisis hits Kumbo.
Despite several water schemes in Kumbo town, the area is currently experiencing acute water shortage. The population in all parts of the town has gone for months without the precious liquid. It is a common phenomenon to see denizens including administrative officials crisscrossing the town in search of the facility. Although the situation has largely been blamed on the climate change phenomenon, the on-going Anglophone crisis has partly contributed to it. Institutions that were put in place to ensure constant and potable water supply in the town and its environs no longer function as expected. Tobin, the administrative headquarters, that hitherto had water supplies from the Kumbo Water Authority, Meluf and Jinggari schemes have witnessed their taps run dry. Added to this deplorable situation, River Bui which is the largest stream cutting across the town, has suffered from pollution due to so many human activities from the watershed to downstream, making it environmentally unfriendly for any human consumption. Due to this situation, measures are currently being taken by some institutions to minimize the effect of the acute water shortage. In the Banso Baptist Hospital, BBH, patients and other users have been cautioned through posters pasted all over the hospital premises, to minimize water wastage. As a last resort, the population is counting on the rainy season as a rescue measure.
