February 9 council elections: Reruns ordered in 10 Councils.
The number of Councils where a rerun has been ordered has reached 10 and there are expectations that the figure could increase as some Administrative Courts are due to pronounce their verdicts this week.
Before now, Municipal elections had been cancelled only in the Bafut and Benakuma councils in the North West Regions, and Maroua I in the Far North.
But last week, other decisions emerged from the West regional administrative court in Bafoussam cancelling the polls in four councils, namely; Bafoussam I, Bandja,Koutaba and Foumbot.
In the North, the February 9 exercise will have to be repeated in the Lagdo and Bibémi Councils in the Benoué Division; while in the Centre Region, Monatélé Council in the Lekié Division should be warming up for same exercise following a decision of the Centre administrative court made public on March 25.
All the decisions are however subject to appeal as unsatisfied parties have the right to seize the Administrative Bench of the Supreme Court within a period of 15 days following the decision of the Administrative Court.
As also provided by the law, all Mayors elected to the helm of the Councils will remain in office until either fresh elections are conducted or the decisions of the Administrative Courts are reversed by the superior jurisdiction.
