GICAM, the employers’ association, says the suspension of tax audits and the re-adjustments of deadlines are very crucial for the survival of Cameroonian firms.
The alleviation measures are part of an 18-point proposal issued on Tuesday March 31 on the heels of an extraordinary board meeting to evaluate the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on firms in Cameroon.
In the area of taxes, the Cameroon Employers’ as association has called for “the suspension of tax adjustment in progress”. The association is also canvassing for “the postponement, without penalties, of the deadlines for statistical and fiscal statements, provided that the balances had already been paid on March 15.”
The relaxation of the conditions for issuing certificates of non-royalty has also been invoked by the employers’ association. A delay has also been recommended for a variety of taxes and other dues expected from firms in the country.
As far as the customs sector is concerned, the association is campaigning for the relaxation of control measures and the quarantine, for 14 days, “of ships for strategic sectors and sensitive products; agricultural inputs, finished and semi –finished food products, pharmaceutical products”.
On behalf of firms, the association has also crusaded for the “removal, during the crisis period, of demurrage and parking fees related to customs clearance operations”. It further recommends the lightening and adaptation of produces related to customs clearance and payment of suppliers, to take into account the constraints linked to confinement in the countries of embarkation.
An increase in financing ceilings, the association says, will help firms get additional material to meet the new needs imposed by the new outbreak. In addition to this, banks need to grant cash loans to businesses, in order to enable them ward off the impact of the pandemic.
