Health centre shuts down as worker tests positive.
A health centre in Baleng, Bafousam II Sub-division in the West Region has been temporarily closed for 14 days after a health worker tested positive for the COVID-19, the West Regional Delegate for Public Health, Dr Chinmoun Daouda, said.
The health centre shut its doors on Monday while all its personnel will remain in isolation for 14 days while waiting for their test results. Other health agents have been at the centre to disinfect the premises as well as the neighbourhood while residents have been advised to take precautions by temporarily staying at home. The COVID-19 case was detected last week at the Baleng health centre before begin transferred to the Bafoussam Regional Hospital. However the patient had spent five days at the health centre where he had physical contact with one of the health personnel who also later tested positive. A team from the Ministry of Public Health was at the centre on Monday to supervise its disinfection and took samples of other health personnel to analyse. “We are taking all the necessary precautions to ensure the health centre and its environs are disinfected for the next 14 days before operations resume. We have told the population to remain calm and respect the necessary measures. It is preferable they remain at home if they have nothing to do”, Dr Chinmoun Daouda said. He sent out telephone numbers for patients who had visited the health centre from March 18 to call so they could be tested and avoid a situation where a positive case could go on and contaminate the entire community.
For the time being, the population has been urged to head to other health facilities or the Bafoussam Regional Hospital for their health worries while waiting for the Baleng Health centre to reopen its doors.
