Results annulled in three more council.

The East regional administrative court in Bertoua has cancelled results of the February 9 Municipal elections in three Councils in the Region. The verdict handed down by the court on Friday 27 March concerns the councils of Betaré – Oya in the Lom –and –Djerem, and Messok and Lomié in the Upper Nyong Division.

During the session that rounded up proceedings early Friday morning, eight other petitions were rejected by the court. But the court decided to nullify the results in the three Councils for what was adjudged to be “gross electoral irregularities.”

This comes to add to the over 10 councils nationwide where results of the February 9 polls were equally cancelled. The Bafut and Benakuma Councils in the North West Regions, and Maroua I in the Far North were the first councils where the polls were nullified by Administrative courts.

Later, other decisions emerged from the West Regional Administrative Court in Bafoussam cancelling the polls in four Councils, namely; Bafoussam I, Bandja, Koutaba and Foumbot.

In the North, the February 9 vote was ordered to be retaken in the Lagdo and Bibémi Councils in the Benoué Division; while in the Centre Region, Monatélé council in the Lekié Division is expected to repeat the same exercise following  a decision of the Centre administrative court made public March 25. All the decisions are however subject to appeal as unsatisfied parties have the right to seize the Administrative Bench of the Supreme Court within a period of 15 days following the decision of the Administrative Court.

As also provided by the law, all Mayors elected to the concerned councils will remain in office until fresh elections are either conducted or the decisions of the administrative courts are reversed by the Supreme Court.
