National orders body considering medals for 3,350 Cameroonians.
Three Thousand Three Hundred and Fifty Cameroonians drawn from different sectors of the country are poised to receive national medals in recognition of their meritorious services rendered the nation. The information has been disclosed by the National Council of National Orders which rounded off deliberations at the Unity Palace last Thursday, April16, 2020. The session that started on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 and chaired by the Grand Chancellor of the National Orders, Peter Mafany Musonge, on behalf of the Grand Master of the National Orders, President Paul Biya, falls in line with activities leading up to the 48th edition of the National Day to be celebrated next May 20,2020 in Cameroon.
The different distinctions have been distributed as follows: Order of Valour: 300 medals; Order of Merit 1,300 medals; Agriculture Order of Merit 300 medals; Order of Sports Merit: 150 Medals and Public Force Medal: 1,300.
Opening the session, the Grand Chancellor of the National Orders, Peter MafanyMusonge, said the Head of State has instructed that the council should be rigorous in the selection exercise so that the best possible profiles by the competent authorities will be honoured by the Nation.
“More than ever, we will have to show all the objectivity necessary to retain only the candidates who, within and without our borders, have contributed to the image of our country as a proud country and a united nation ready to face all the challenges. There have been institutional changes and a new departments have also been the integrated into the College Councils. For example, we have the Ministry of Decentralization and Local Development. City Mayors have also been included”, Peter Mafany Musonge said.
The meeting was held in strict respect of social distancing and the wearing of face masks aimed at minimizing the spread of the Corona virus pandemic.
