Case against Anglophone sponsors of terrorism in US: Victims rope in US Ambassador in Y'de!
Victims of terrorism are leaving no stone unturned to widen their room for manoeuvre in their case against Anglophone sponsors of terrorism. Aware of the crucial support the US ambassador in Cameroon can give to their case, they have written to Ambassador Peter H. Barlerin appealing to his conscience on the matter.
The letter, titled Re: THE HUMANITARIAN CRISIS IN THE NORTH-WEST AND SOUTH-WEST REGIONS (“NOSO”), AND SEEKING JUSTICE FOR VICTIMS OF AMBAZONIA TERRORISM, seeks to convince the US ambassador in Cameroon about irrefutable evidence of their sponsorship of terrorist activities that have led to loss of lives, property and stoppage of economic activities with US partners.
“CAVAT seek to inform you of the international terrorist activities of these Ambazonians in the USA. CAVAT desires to provide you with irrefutable evidence of international terrorism committed by the USA-based
Ambazonians, and request that you take immediate appropriate action consistent with USA laws”, wrote Nsahlai Law Firm to the US ambassador on 17 April.
Drawing from the conviction of Gambians in January 2015 by the United States Department of Justice for violation of the “Neutrality Act” because they were “making an expedition against a friendly nation from the United States,” CAVAT concludes that those sponsoring the separatist movement in Cameroon deserve a worse indictment.
” The Ambazonians have committed crimes a million times worse than the Gambians who killed no one. The Ambazonians’ expedition against
Cameroon has directly caused, according to United Nations estimates, over 3,000 civilian deaths, 60,000 refugees, a million internally displaced persons, and massive sufferings of the local populations and a humanitarian crisis”, wrote Nsahlai.
The victims express regret that the financial sponsorship of terrorism has continued unabated “even during this Coronavirus pandemic.”
“You have the power, influence, and solution, at your doorstep to end the pain and sufferings of USA citizens, as well as of other Cameroonians, with regards to the conflict in NOSO. The “Ambazonians” should be held accountable for their violation of USA criminal and international laws. We have evidence, and it is widely known, that USA-based Cameroonians are directly financing the armed groups who commit the killings, torture, maiming, daily criminal threats and kidnappings against civilians, and they provide the funds with intent and knowledge that these crimes will be committed”, the email addressed to the US ambassador in Yaounde, argued.
The 17 April correspondence came on the heels of a complaint filed on 6 February 2020.
The victims through their attorney, Emmanuel Nsahlai of Nsahlai Law Firm, filed “COMPLAINT FOR INJUNCTIVE AND DECLARATORY RELIEF; WRIT OF MANDAMUS [To compel defendants to apply Presidential and Congressional antiterrorism mandates on the “Ambazonia” organizations, individuals, and those in active concert and participation with them, who are using the United States of America as a safe harbor to commit acts of international terrorism and violent extremism and hate crimes that has resulted in thousands of civilian deaths” against WILLIAM P. BARR, ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE UNITED STATES. AND THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE 950 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, D.C. 20530-0001 AND CHRISTOPHER A. Should the court grant their request, it will pave the way for Anglophone separatist leaders based abroad like Tapang Ivo, Eric Tataw, Chris Anu, Ayaba Cho, Samuel Sako and Mark Bareta to have their funding sources frozen. They will then be arrested and repatriated to Cameroon to face justice, thereby bringing an end to the armed conflict.
