Load shedding in SW: “We have been forgotten” villages without electricity say.
Several towns in the North West and South West regions have not had constant electricity over the last months. In a bid to remedy the situation, there has been load shedding, a move some locals say is pointless due to the non respect of the set times.
Despite the load shedding and repair works going on, inhabitants of other towns however say they have been forgotten entirely.
Theodore (not real name), resident in Tole in the South West region says he feels the locality has been left out. “The population of Tole has not had electricity for one month and a week running now. This was after a transformer in our locality got bad and some electric poles fell”, he says.
Though the poles were replaced, the electricity, he says, never came. “They promised that we will have lights the following day but … there’s still no light… we’re not safe and it’s like we’ve been forgotten.”
M. Louis says same is the fate of Missellele which seems to be given no attention too. “They said they will come and check but ever since there is still no light”, he explained.
Missellele and Tole are among other villages affected by the ongoing war in the Anglophone regions with no school going on for the past years.
