Limbe Autonomous Port becomes reality at last; SW chiefs hail Biya.
The Anglophone crisis appears to be awakening the Cameroon government to reality of balanced development in Cameroon.
In what was seen as the political will of President Paul Biya to promote industrialisation of Anglophone regions of Cameroon, the Limbe Autonomous Port, created in 1999 alongside Douala and Kribi Autonomous Ports, has been given the necessary tools to operate.
The Head of State, on Tuesday May 5, signed two decrees regarding the structure of the Limbe Autonomous Port.
While one approves the statutes of the port, the second reorganises its structure, making the state its sole shareholder.
The missions of the Limbe Autonomous Port (PAL) are to ensure the management, development, promotion and marketing of the public port domain.
It is placed under the technical authority of the Ministry of Transport, while the Ministry of Finance assumes financial tutelage.
PAL has three management organs: the General Assembly, the Board of Administrators and the Directorate General.
Reacting to the re-organisation of the Limbe Autonomous Port, Chief Mafany Njie Martins , President of the South West Chiefs’ Conference, signed a statement hailing the move as an indication of Biya’s determination to see the industrialisation of the South West region become a reality and let Limbe contribute to Cameroon’s emergence.
Meanwhile Limbe youths yesterday undertook a peaceful march from the Limbe Community Field through the streets to show their gratitude to President Biya. They said they were now sure to have jobs and other economic opportunities.
