Akere-Maimo J. Ano-Ebie is now the new Communications and PR Officer for the DIGNITI project implemented in the Far North Region by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) Cameroon. DIGNITI is an innovative cash-based project in humanitarian response, wherein NRC aims at assisting IDPs and host communities to have access to food, shelter, water and other basic services; the project makes use of mobile apps and other technologies to ease the implementation of its interventions.

Before joining NRC, the 39-year-old Akere-Maimo served as Communications Expert for the EU-funded PRESEC project managed by SNV Cameroon in collaboration with CADEPI and APROSPEN (September 2017-April 2020). He became the Advocacy & Communications Officer of the Cameroon Coalition Against Malaria (April 2008- April 2013), after which he was the Regional Field Supervisor for Global Fund Round 9-Malaria Project at the Maroua Program Unit of Plan International (July 2013-March 2015) and became Communications Manager of the USAID/PEPFAR funded CHAMP Project at CARE International in Cameroon (April 2015-February 2017).

Akere-Maimo is a multi-talented and versatile Communications & Development Expert who has proven his mettle beyond every reasonable doubt by mainstreaming communications in almost all spheres of life with more than 12 years of professional experience working with the Civil Society and NGOs in various projects funded by Global Fund, PEPFAR, USAID, EU, GlaxoSmithKline and Planned Parenthood Federation of America. He is quite experienced in Communications for Development (C4D), project management, public health and developmental issues, resilience and humanitarian aid. He studied in the Advanced School of Mass Communication (ASMAC), University of Yaounde II, where he obtained a BSc in Mass Communication with specialty in Advertising & Public Relations (2004-2007) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Health & Environmental Communication (2009/2010). While at ASMAC, he was already enterprising enough to be the Yaoundé Bureau Chief of The Entrepreneur economics & business journal and Profiles International magazine.

On a personal note, Akere-Maimo has worked as a Knowledge Management and Communications Consultant to develop evidence-based BCC and advocacy tools for a good number of organisations involved in child-centred and youth-led programmes such as Rainbow Children’s Fund Cameroon, NESDA-CA, Fobang Foundation, ERA Cameroon, Cameroon’s Chapter of the Network for Adolescents and Youth in Africa (NAYA), etc. In fact, he runs his own consultancy firm known as ICONEDA (Innovative Communications Network for Development in Africa) which aims at mainstreaming communications in everything that has to do with development. He is credited for publishing about 100 articles on varied topics related to public health, the environment, politics, business and economics in local journals such as The Post, The Entrepreneur Business & Economics Newspaper, Profiles International, Eden, Cameroon Panorama, L’Effort Camerounais, and The Horizon. He is author of an unpublished poetry collection “Soul Diet 1: Songs of War, Song of Peace”. He is a gifted songwriter/singer and graphic artist; released his first album “New Creation” in January 2013.

The ever-bustling hard worker of Akere-Maimo stops at nothing to innovate and be of selfless service to his community as a young leader. To this effect, he has championed personal initiatives in community development and civic engagement involving school children and youths through what he terms the Inter-Mediary Positive Actions for Change through Talents (IMPACT) development model and youth mentorship programme that was funded by the US Embassy in Cameroon dubbed the Cameroon Youth Empowerment Programme (CAYEP).

As a sign of reaping the fruits of his labour, Akere was recognized amongst 13/100 by the 2013 continental “Harubuntu Prize” for enterprising Africans, organised by the Belgian Echos Communications in collaboration with the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLGA). He was honoured to take part in the International Visitor Leadership Programme (IVLP): “Youth Leadership and Civic Engagement in the U.S." (April 30 - May 18, 2012) among 15 young African leaders. His experience at SNV took him to Uganda and Zambia (December 2018), wherein he accompanied the PRESEC project team in an inter-country exchange visit aimed at gaining and transferring knowledge on the SNV’s Sustainable Nutrition for All (SN4A) model and more recently in the SNV first-ever Nutrition Learning Event that took place in Kampala, Uganda (11-13 November 2019).

He is a product from the prestigious Sacred Heart College Mankon and of the 1994 batch; he has been the Secretary of SHESA Yaounde, the ex-students association of his Alma Mater. He is happily married, a father of three and hails from Meta in the North West Region of Cameroon. He is currently enrolled in two online Masters programmes: International Cooperation & Humanitarian Aid with the Kalu Institute and Leadership & Management with the Global Entrepreneur’s Institute.
