Transition of a youthful giant .

The Noni people in Bui have hardly had time to wipe off tears from their eyes after losing Mayor Francis Wache. Once again, they have been shocked by another abrupt departure, this time, Alfred Mbeng Forgwei, the former General Manager of the Cameroon Shipyard Engineering Company, (Chantier Naval).

Nform Nforgwei had been serving, as General Manager of the Cameroon Shipyard Engineering Company, (Chantier Naval) since May 2014 after working at the Buea school of Public Works, and the supervisory Ministry, where he rose to the post of General Manager, of anEngineering Company.

Generally known for his shrewdness and competence, NformForgwei who passed on at the age of 62 had served as Mayor of Nkor Council in Noni, and Section President of the ruling party, CPDM, Noni Sub Division. Besides his highly-demanding tasks at the Ministry of Public Works, Nform Alfred Forgwei, who was Secretary General of the Cameroon Order of Civil Engineers, had also served as President of Nkor Development Authority (NDA) and in Yaounde, Chairman of the Etoug-Ebe Baptist Church Building Committee. These contributions in his community, the church, teaching, Civil Service, and General Management, at the Cameroon Shipyard Engineering Company earned him respect and admiration. Those aware of his competence and shrewdness in administration hoped and wished for more promotions in his favour.

But the Almighty Creator had something else for him, deserved rest in his celestial kingdom instead of Leadership positions in a disease-ridden world. On Saturday 24 April 2020 Alfred Forgwei breathed his last at the Douala Laquintinie hospital, bringing to an end a scenario of an eventful journey.

This abrupt and untimely departure makes me recall what a kinsman once noted while in tears at one of the burials in Noni, Bui Division: “why does death keep snatching from us our dynamic youths at a time we direly need them? Yester years, it was Chrysanthus Ndikintum, a Canada trained Electronics engineer; then came Justice Samuel Fon, our first Noni magistrate, RollyIsidoreFon, a competent translator/interpreter working in the Presidency, Professor Emeritus Bole Butake, a literary icon”, just to mention a few.

Wache followed a few months ago, and today, G.M Alfred Forgwei is gone. It is indeed painful. But this is life on a planet where things happen not the way we want, but in respect of destiny and challenges. We have our wishes but the Almighty Creator alone has his way.

The talented and great pass on to glory leaving us with lessons to learn, and emulate if we must give meaning to life on earth.

A former student of the Ombe Technical College, Alfred Forgwei later studied civil Engineering in the University of Lagos, Nigeria and the USA. He leaves behind his wife, and children, relations in Nkor, DjottinandLassin, besides comrades of CPDM, and the civil engineering corps to mourn him.
