Popular Action Party (PAP) under a new leadership.
During the PAP National Council meeting that held in Yaounde on Saturday June 22, 2019, the party’s leadership was officially handed over to Njang Denis.
Supporters and sympathizers as well as political allies of the PAP converged on Yaounde on Saturday June 22, 2019 for the party’s national council meeting. The meeting attended by representatives of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM), Cameroon People’s Party (CPP) and the Alliance of Progressive Forces (APF) had two major issues inscribed on the agenda. Firstly, it was the review of the party’s activities from 2015 to 2019 and secondly the inauguration of a new national president as well as other executive members.
Considering a decision unanimously arrived at by the Council of the Wise and adopted by the National Council, Njang Denis by then, the National Organizing Secretary, was mandated the National President of the PAP, replacing Chief Justice Ayah Paul Abine who stepped down months back. The same decision saw Yenwri Precedis Wwoyeh as vice president; Lena Fabrice, National secretary for Communication; and Mbouli Roger as national secretary for organization. Other posts remained unchanged.
Commissioning the new leadership by Edwin Banla, personal representative of Chief Justice Ayah Paul, he first of all read out the decision of the Council of the Wise and then handed over the constitution urging the team to work while respecting the party canons.
As a sign of recognition, Denis Njang on behalf of the party, handed over an honorific distinction destined for Justice Ayah and making him honorary member of the PAP.
Talking to the press after the inauguration ceremony, the new PAP leader said it is a new dawn for the party but he is going to continue with the legacy of his predecessor who has sacrificed immensely.
The other phase of the meeting was the projection of the activities carried out by the PAP since 2015 till date. Some of them being; organizing the party’s grass root organs: during this period branches were created in Yaounde 4 and 5, visit to Lebialem, humanitarian aid to suffering population of the Anglophone crisis under the Ayah Foundation, organization of public rallies, news conferences explaining to the public the circumstances surrounding Ayah’s arrest and detention, amongst others.
At the end of it all, the party came out with a declaration calling on Paul Biya to resign having failed to solve the Anglophone crisis. Also announced was the party’s non-participation in any election until the present crisis is resolved. PAP called for the unconditional release of all arrested, and declared its support to the All Anglophone Conference of Cardinal Tumi and a revisit of the 1961 union.
