Anglophone Crisis: Bamenda City Mayor's ‘lie’ dismays population

The enthusiasm that followed the announcement by Bamenda city’s ‘born-again’ mayor of auction sales on Mondays to break the counter-productive ‘country-Sunday’ syndrome in his municipality turned to disappointment and frustration last Monday when the gates of the Bamenda main market remained closed.
A teeming crowd that had turned up to benefit from the announced bonanza resorted to name-calling against Paul Achobang cum Pastor of Overcomers Chapel Abangoh when they could not find the announced subsidized basic necessities.
“How can a Man of God feed us with lies just to make a name?” one of who the persons who turned out at the Bamenda main market as early as 6 or 7am queried. As a popular African proverb notes "…he who wants to swallow an arrow must be ready to drink a river to push it down", but Mayor Paul Achobang failed to assure a steady financial source to sustain his vision. It turned out sour for the many men, youths and women who turned out to see the Bamenda mayor continue to deliver.
He had promised to make the supplies available every Monday but the preceding Mondays saw no rice grains available for grabbing.
Then to calm the flaring tempers, the mayor who showed up to face the anxious women with a straight face told them the truck conveying the commodities had a break down. He then pleaded with them to go home and return the following Monday.
Achobang later told press men that he had just 100 bags of rice in stock on 27 April but realizing that the supply would not meet the desires of the masses, the auction was postponed to 4th May, but within less than two hours the stock was cleared, prompting the mayor to announce confidently that 11 th May would be better.
On Monday 11th May, The Horizon confronted some young men around Meta quarters trekking home empty-handed after braving the odds to benefit from the sales in vain.
Additionally, women who had turned out from Old town, Big Mankon, Ngomgham, Nchuobuh and other neighbourhoods, returned home grumbling after spending over 5 hours basking the sun without anyone to attend to them. returned home grumbling.
