EDGE Cameroon has taken over waste disposal in Bamenda following hostility shown to HYSACAM by armed gangs who resorted to destruction of its machines, forcing management to cut down its activities.
But the proliferation of waste for over 8 months now the town has seen a worst face with the risk of endangering the health situation of the Bamenda city dwellers. This explains why EDGE Cameroon engaged in a free campaign to dispose waste in some strategic areas of the Bamenda 2 and 3 municipalities of the North West Region.
According to the CEO of EDGE, Mr Tichang Pius, the aim of this gesture is to ascertain better living conditions despite the prevailing situation."Before now the population has been exposed to decaying garbage whose outcome is grievous thus we must make life beautiful owing to the challenges and irrespective of the situation Bamenda deserves better " .
The campaign which saw the eradication of waste from the Sacred Heart Mankon area, Mile 7 Mankon, Hospital round about, Azire, Travellers, Bali Park, Food Market , Foncha Street, Mile 2 and Amour Mezam stretch of roads is in its second day and as per the programme plan they will engage in a complete cleaning of the Bamenda town.
Coming at a time when many have been threatened, Mr Pius Tichang says we can’t go into the polemics. “We think Bamenda deserves better and our initiative is purely a home initiative whose goal is geared towards offering the helpless masses the best.
“We all are living in Bamenda and we have people of all sorts pregnant women, children, youths, fathers, mothers and especially the old who are all involved and exposed to its dangers.”
The exercise which is said to cost a fortune is solely handled and despite its cost Bamenda deserves better.
