State House audience: President Biya, UN official discuss security, Covid-19.
The Head of State last Wednesday 13 May, granted audience to the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General and Head of the UN Regional Office for Central Africa, Guinean- born Francois Louncény Fall, at the State House.
During the audience that lasted for close to one hour, the two men discussed variety of subjects, namely the socio-economic, political and security situation as well as other issues affecting the sub region.
“(I had an) excellent meeting today on sub-regional security, integration, economy and the Covid-19 pandemic with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and Head of the UN Regional Office for Central Africa, Mr Francois Louncény Fall”, President Paul said in a tweet after the audience.
Speaking to reporters later, Louncény Fall said he reiterated, to his host, the UN’s readiness to assist Cameroon in its efforts to fully establish and consolidate peace in the English speaking Regions of the North West and South West.
He said the global body was ready to continue to support Cameroon’s efforts, the latest of which is the launching of a Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction of the two Regions which have been badly affected by the lingering crisis. Both personalities, the top UN official confirmed, also talked elaborately about the ongoing coronavirus plague which has imposed huge socio-economic difficulties on countries of the World.
He said they talked about the evolution of the Covid-19 situation in Cameroon and ongoing multilateral efforts to fight the pandemic.
On this point, Louncény Fall also restated the willingness of the UN to assist Cameroon in the fight against the pandemic that has infected nearly 3, 000 Cameroonians, according to Public Health Ministry figures.
President Paul Biya’s last audience at the State House was on April 16 when he received the French Ambassador to Cameroon, His Excellency Christophe Guilhou. On the occasion, they both discussed a number of bilateral issues, including France’s support to Cameroon within the framework of the fight against Covid-19.
