2020-05-31
No: 498

Cameroon to raise 14 automatic toll gates on nation’s roads.

The Cameroon Government has signed a contract for the construction of 14 electronic road toll gates in some pavements of the nation’s roads. This was done by the Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, together with Finance Minister, Louis Paul Motaze, in the presence of the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Ngalle Bibehe, on May 8th, 2020.

According to sources, the minister officialised the contract via a video conference. The contract is to last for three years and the process ranges from the financing, design, construction, equipment, operation and maintenance of the fourteen electric toll stations on certain paved roads of the Cameroon road network.

The construction of road toll booths will consist of a ground and upper floor, a parking lot and a specific secure access road, a generator set and its shelter, all networks, and equipment, sanitation, and fences. The parking areas, on the other hand, are set to have commercial spaces upstream and downstream of the toll booths.

The project is to be handled by the French group FAYAT specialized in the construction and electrification of road infrastructures.
