HRW lauds deceased Dr. Banda’s efforts for justice in Cameroon.
The Human Right Watch (HRW) and some officials have paid tribute to Late Dr. Chemuta Divine Banda for his contributions in the fight for the return to peace in Cameroon and for his efforts in pushing for the truth regarding the investigations of the Ngarbuh massacre of February 2020.
The lauded legend was Chairman of Cameroon’s National Commission on Human Rights and Freedom from 2003.
Taking to her tweeter page, the HRW Senior Central African Researcher, Ilaria Allegrozzi, wrote: “The human rights commission mourns the passing of one of its most respected figures, Chemuta Divine Banda…His family and those whose rights he stood for will deeply miss him.”
She equally mentioned that the deceased “played a great role in the investigations of the Ngarbuh massacres and called on the government to render findings public…He also fought to improve the commission’s access to detention centers.”
According to media reports, the rights defenders died in Yaounde on Monday, May 18th, 2020 after suffering from a brief illness.
