In the heyday of the ‘Ambazonia revolution’, government officials who did not toe the line were “arrested” (a euphemism for kidnapping for purposes of correction). They were often released either after paying a ransom or promising to obey diktats issued by the ambaboys.
Unfortunately, some of these “arrests” resulted in horrific executions as was the case of the DO for Batibo, Marcel Namata Diteng.
Anglophones who stuck their neck to go in for the 9 February 2020 elections are under threat of “arrest” from some separatist leaders.
In a 3 minutes video circulating on social media Capo Daniel, deputy defense chair of one of the separatist armed groups, ADF, has promised hell for Bamenda city mayor, Paul Achobong.
In the video, the diaspora activist hints Paul Achobong has been treated with ignominy owing to his previous approaches and desires to help the masses through subsidized sales of basic commodities.
The Horizon understands the initiative the mayor took was in line with his desire to improve livelihoods in a metropolitan society plagued with more than 10000 displaced people from within restive divisions of the region. The sales are said to be further sustained by the latter's desire to fight the 3-year ghost town observation through which denizens boycott outdoor activities.
Following the declaration, Paul Achobong , according to Daniel Capo, shall be arrested and questioned for accepting to run for elections and become government delegate against the boycott call of the separatists.
In the video, Capo threatens: ".....it will end. We are going to pick you up,we are going to arrest you for aiding the governance of our people".
For close to 4 years, administration of the restive North West region and Bamenda in particular has been marked by aggression of varying magnitudes. The arrest, rape, decapitation of civilians, kidnappings, looting of public and private property have been on a geometric progression. There continue to be open gun battles with diverse casualties between armed men and the regular state army.
The social media threats by Capo have caused a psychosis among the population of Bamenda. The recent murder of the youthful Mayor of Mamfe by alleged separatists is still fresh in their minds. Should a similar faith befall Paul Achobong, the population will be deprived of his auction sales meant to benefit the poor.
