UNESCO celebrates Africa Day with Special Resiliart.

As part of the celebrations marking the Africa Day last Monday, the United Nations Scientific, Educational and Cultural Organisation, UNESCO, organized a special edition of the Resiliart and hosted a debate aimed at fighting misinformation in the era of the COVID-19.

The debate which was webcast by UNESCO, WAN and France 24 focused on the role of artists in fighting disinformation and misinformation, the pandemic’s impact on culture industries, and the challenges facing the sector in view of the digital transformation underway. Featuring among the panelists on the debate were Kareyce Fotso alongside other music heavy weights on the continent like Youssou Ndour (Senegal), Neila Tazi (Morocco).

Cameroon’s Kareyce Fotso said the culture sector has been hardly hit by the COVID-19 pandemic but stressed it is the opportunity for them to rally in one voice and kick out the virus in order to save the African culture. The debate rounded off with a 45-minute virtual concert that brought together prominent African artists including Bobi Wine and Spice Diana (Uganda), Oumou Sangare (Mali), Les Freres Smith and Seun Kuti (Nigeria), Youssou N’dour, Didier Awadi, and Sahad Sarr (Senegal), Mr. Leo (Cameroon), Dj Kedjevara and Revolution Groupe (Cote d’Ivoire), Djanny Pacha (DRC), Fafa Ruffino (Benin), Siti Amina (Zanzibar, Tanzania), Pam Luster (Burkina Faso), Danny Lee (Niger) and Marcus Miller (USA), among others.

The concert also saw the release of the song ‘Zero Corona’ that brings together over 20 African artists across the continent and a remix of UNESCO’s #Don’tGoViral# playlist by African American DJ Flex.
