FCFA 5.7 billion haemodialysis centre announced.
The huge investment by an international firm, Medicis Sarl, has been announced following the signing of a partnership agreement.
In a bid to encourage and promote investment in Cameroon, the government through the Investment Promotion Agency, signed an agreement with Medicis Sarl recently. The convention gives the firm the leverage to invest in the establishment of a haemodialysis centre in the country.
The said the investment is expected to contribute in building the nation’s public health system and bringing relief to people battling with kidney failures. It was until late 2000 that haemodialysis centres were set up in each of the 10 Regional Headquarters. Before then, patients had to spend huge amounts to travel to Yaounde and Douala for Dialysis. This investment would therefore meet needs that are far reaching. At the time, patients spent as much as FCFA 75, 000 for a single dialysis session. Funding partners are to thank for the subsidy on dialysis sessions. Patients now pay as low as FCFA 5, 000 per session, depending on the situation of the patient. The investment would further make the services more available and affordable to Cameroonians.
