Table salt production capacity doubles.

Subsequent to the investment of some FCFA five billion in the salt production sector in Cameroon, the nation’s production capacity has been raised from 10 to 20 tons. The Africa Salt Corporation is to thank for his new stride. Salt is a common ingredient consumed by many. Nearly all Cameroonian meals have salt as a sweetening ingredient However; salt consumption is often not advised for persons facing some health challenges. Cattle as well as goats and other animals also find pleasure in consuming the chemical. The major component of the project to increase production will feature the expansion of the Bonaberi plant in Douala. The FCFA five billion investment falls within the ambit of the investment Promotion Agency. Sources close to the firm say some 160 direct jobs will immediately be created, once the plant is expanded.

The firm targeted to do the expansion at a time when goods of Africa origin would have begun circulating freely in the continent. But the postponement of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA, launch, initially billed for July 1, did not in any way stall their plans. Officials of the AfCFTA a few weeks ago said the initially targeted date could not be respected as a result of the Covid-19 threat. Announcing the new target last week, officials of the Africa Salt Corporation said from the Bonaberi Production Plant, they intend to supply Cameroon and other countries in the continent.
