Buea: Disinfecting schools ahead of Monday reopening.
Heads of some academic establishments in Buea have taken diverse measures to ensure a smooth resumption of classes on Monday June 1, 2020. The Bilingual Grammar School (BGS) Molyko on Tuesday May 26, 2020 disinfected the entire school campus through classrooms and offices.
The disinfection comes on the heels of a general clean in the school.
Batoum Ngom Laurent who effected the spraying said that he is using Chloride to disinfect the environment against coronavirus and the chemical can last for one month. He also used “Tamega”, “pinforce” and “pyriforce” to disinfect the school against all types of insects and it will be repeated in three months.
The Principal of the BGS, Lyonga Cecilia Limunga, pointed out that each block of her school will have a hand washing container adapted with tap. That they have already done the arrangement on all the sitting positions in the school to accommodate students, considering social distancing and are waiting for take-off on Monday. She called on parents to furnish their children with face masks and personal hand sanitizers before they come to school. Parents were also called up to prepare food packs for their children because no food will be sold on campus.
The proprietor of Buea Islamic Private Anglo-Arabic Nursery and Primary School, His Eminence, Ahadji Mohammed Aboubakar, held that they are 80 percent prepared to kick off classes on Monday. That by Saturday May 30, 2020 they will complete the sanitary aspect whereby medical experts will disinfect the entire school. That on the day of reopening, medics will be in school to conduct thermo scan on pupils before they enter their classes.
“Any child having high temperature will be referred to hospital for checkup. For the sitting positions, we shall have one pupil per bench. Every period will have a teacher”, the cleric explained. He pleaded with parents to provide face masks and hand sanitizers to their children while the school will make available water and soap for hand washing.
In the University of Buea, a communiqué signed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ngomo Horace Manga, on May 19, 2020, specified that classes will be scheduled using all the available spaces on campus in order to meet up with the exigencies of social distancing. Hand washing points will be extended on campus and the Department of Chemistry is tasked to expand the production of hand sanitizers at all entry points, areas of gathering and classrooms. All classrooms, laboratories, Halls of Residence and Restaurants will be disinfected every morning and at the end of the day. Thermo flashes shall be used to check the temperature of staff and students at the different entey points into campus. Other campuses visited were seen clean but no staff in sight. From field verifications, schools in Buea are set for June 1 reopening.
