As airports re-open: Stringent regulations outlined for travellers.
Following the reopening of the Yaounde Nsimalen and Douala International Airports, the Cameroon Civil Aviation Agency has dished out some regulations to govern travellers arriving or leaving the country.
According to the decision, all passengers are required to provide the agency with a health information sheet.
The sheet communicates details on the traveller’s health condition, his immediate history and possible indices that can help in case the traveller eventually tests positive for Covid-19.
“Every traveller has to fill the information sheet and send it to us at prevention sante@ccaa.aero, 24 hours before he/she travels”, the aviation agency stated in the announcement.
The measure follows the government’s decision to reopen the ports as French authorities also announced the resumption of commercial flights to Cameroon this June.
The aviation agency further indicates that a printed version of the sheet shall be required at the airport, for those arriving, before the they can be allowed to enter the country.
This measure would be applicable till June 30, 2020, when the Cameroon Civil Aviation Agency is expected to give a new orientation.
The new regulation also requires all passengers to undertake a Covid-19 test before travelling. And their result must be negative before they can travel. Upon arrival in Cameroon, the agency said the passenger would sign to self-isolate him/herself for 14days before moving out to the public.
It should be recalled that the French carrier, Air France, said there will be three flights a week from Paris to the Yaounde Nsimalen and Douala International Airports. When this was announced last May, there was also some communication between the Presidency of the Republic, the Ministry of Transport and the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority to facilitate the resumption of activities at the airport. Their conclusions led to the May 11, 2020 Ministerial decision, in which the Transport boss, Jean Ernest Ngalle Bibehe, gave the greenlight for airports to reopen.
On February 21, 2020, the Prime Minister announced the first Covid-19 case in Cameroon, indicating he was a French national who travelled into the country through an Air France flight. This could explain why the very stringent measures are being reinforced to avoid the importation of more positive cases.
