FIGHTING COVID-19: MINCOM embarks on proximity sensitisation.
The Minister of Communication, Réné Emmanuel Sadi, has dispatched mobile caravans to reach out to Cameroonians both in the cities and in the hinterlands who are still reluctant to comply with the barrier measures prescribed by the World Health Organisation and the government. For 12 days, the teams will criss-cross and the districts of the city of Yaounde and Douala, as well as other parts of the country, giving priority to the Adamawa, the East, the Far North and the North Regions.
“We will all go to remind them of the importance of scrupulously respecting the WHO barrier measures and the government requirements for individual and collective protection. We will present to them the risks incurred in the event of irresponsible behaviour by insisting on the compulsory wearing of protective masks, respecting the physical distance of at least 1.5meters and the need to cover your nose and mouth with a disposable handkerchief during coughing or sneezing”, said Minister René Emmanuel Sadi.
The Ministry of Communication is partnering with the Ministry of Youth and Civic Education who are making available young people and conscripts of the National Civic Service for Participation in Development throughout the national territory.
The United Nations International Children Emergency Fund, UNICEF, has offered 400 megaphones for the mobile caravans to use to sensitize Cameroonians to the dangers of COVID-19 during the door-to-door campaigns. “The fight against the spread of Covid-19 requires compliance with the barrier measures.
Since the President of the Republic advocated a relaxation of these measures in certain areas, we note a relaxation on the part of our compatriots who believe that we have already defeated the coronavirus whereas we are still in the midst of this pandemic. Faced with this nonchalance, is advisable to step up communication power by going as close as possible to the populations in order to reach the maximum of people”, said René Emmanuel Sadi.
Some of the kits were symbolically given to the mayorsof Yaounde Council.
The event was graced by a sketch by three young animators on how they will carry on with the campaigns on the field. “Populations! Coronavirus is out! Only go outside if necessary and don’t forget to wear your masks and wash your hands regularly with soap and flowing water, failing to use hydro-alcoholic gel”, the youngsters said.
