Distance learning programme launched.
The government of Cameroon has launched a distance learning programme to improve studies for students in secondary schools.
The distance learning programme was launched in Yaounde on Tuesday, June 2 by the Minister of Secondary Education, Professor Nalova Lyonga.
For the Inaugural session held at the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, students across the country participated in lectures from that virtual studio which was then streamed on the online portal of the programme, http://minesecdistancelearning.cm/.
Alongside other partners from other ministries, UNESCO, UNICEF, and the telecommunications sector, the Minister of Secondary Education watched through as students from the English sub system of education received lectures in Physics, Geography and French as student were able to ask questions in real time.
Professor Nalova Lyonga said they had been working on the distance learning programme for the past two months to see that over 300 lessons can be prepared and uploaded on the online platform which can be accessed by students at any time. Students of examination classes in the two sub systems of education can easily have access to all lecture notes on the platform once they are connected while all the necessary measures have been taken to ensure students in rural communities who don’t have access to internet can equally receive the lectures which will be printed out, Professor Nalova Lyonga added.
Last Tuesday’s demonstration drew plaudits from partners who have all pledged to support the initiative with didactic materials.
While presiding over the closing of the tele learning on state television recently, the Minister of Secondary Education revealed government is looking at every means of making distance learning permanent especially with the present context marked by the COVID-19.
