Parliamentarians donate gifts to Meme population.
Senator Otte Andrew Mofa, Questor in the Senate, and Honurable Tabot Lawson Bakia, Secretary in the National Assembly, have donated gifts worth FCFA 8 Million to their Constituency in the fight against Covid-19.
The joint donation comprising 75 containers of 40 litres, 100 bags of salt, 75 bags of rice, 50 cartons of soap,25 Carton of Sugar, 6000 face masks and onion were handed recently to the population at the City Council ground in the presence of the City Mayor.
Addressing the population, Tabot Lawson Bakia said at this time they were supposed to be preparing for their home-coming, but unfortunately Covid-19 took them by surprise. It is in this light, he said, that they came down to their constituency to intervene in the spread against Covid-19. He appreciated the efforts put forth by the administration in the fight against Covid-19 which are visible signs to admit that the disease exists. He called on the population to respect the barrier measures put in place by the government and World Health Organisation in the fight against Covid-19.
For his part, Senator Otte Andrew Mofa, Questor at the Upper House of Parliament, said the gifts were timely as it is both for the Christians and Muslims. The gifts, he noted, came at the time when the entire nation would be celebrating May 20 while the Muslims, for their part, are deeply involved in fasting towards Ramadan. He said Covid-19 is real and called the population to strictly adhere to the measures put in place.
