COVID-19: AU hails President Biya’s contribution to continental fund.
The Chairman of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has extended words of appreciation to President Paul Biya for his financial contribution to the continental body for the fight against the coronavirus.
The AU Commission Chair made the appreciation in an official telegram sent to the Cameroonian leader on the occasion of the 48th National Day of his country, celebrated on May 20.
“In this particularly sensitive period where Covid-19 is causing huge damage across the World, let me assure you of the full support of the African Union Commission and that of its specialised body, the African Centre for Disease Control, and to also thank the government of Cameroon for its contribution of FCFA one billion to the AU fund for the fight against Covid-19, the AU commission chair wrote.
Faki Mahamat also praised the Head of State for all the contributions he has made to the growth and advancement of not only his country, Cameroon, but the continent as a whole.
“Let me express to you on this occasion, all my appreciation and the solidarity of the African Union Commission for all the significant efforts you have continued to make since your accession to the supreme magistracy of your country, for the peace, progress and prosperity of Cameroon and the Central Africa Sub region”, the Chadian-born diplomat added.
Cameroon and the AU enjoy warm ties. The African Union Commission Chair was on a joint visit to Cameroon at the end of last year during which he had talks with President Paul Biya.
He was accompanied on the occasion by the Secretaries General of the Commonwealth, Patricia Scotland, and of La Francophonie, Louise Mushikiwabo.
