BIR base soon in Konye.
Security challenges that have been worrying the people of the Konye Municipality may soon be in the past tense as there are plans to install a military base of the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) in the locality.
The revelation was made in Konye by the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) Ntou’ou Ndong Chamberlain, during an ordinary session of the Konye Council held in Konye on May 14, 2020.
Addressing the Councillors, the SDO promised them that things would soon return to normalcy “in the shortest time”. He congratulated them for their hard work and described the municipality as a “fountain of abundance.” He said cognizant that Konye is the “breadbasket of the Division,” it should not be forgotten when development issues are brought to the fore.
Meanwhile, the main objective of the session was to examine, deliberate and adopt the 2019 Aministrative /Management Stores Accounts. It was chaired by the Mayor of the Konye Council, Dr Barrister Musima George Lobe, sitting alongside the Senior Divisional Officer for Meme, Ntou’ou Ndong Chamberlin. In his welcome address, Mayor Musima congratulated the Municipal Councilors for their brilliant success in the February 9, 2020 elections. He said with the administration behind them, they would work tirelessly to bring the needed development in the municipality. Mayor Musima pointed out that after a keen look of the Council’s record, it emerged that in the 2018 financial year, Konye Councol adopted a budget balanced in revenue and expenditure at FCFA 700 000 000. He said at the end of 2019 fiscal year, the revenue realised stood at FCFA 580 955 512, giving a realization rate of 82.99 percent, while the expenditure stood at FCFA 293 956 700, giving an excess of revenue of FCFA 286 988 821 with a realization percentage of 41.991.
Mayor Musima noted that with the aforementioned statistics, the Council Administrative Accounts have ameliorated from FCFA 390 923 921in 2018 to FCFA 580 995 521 in 2019, the highest in the mandate.
