Back-to-school: Amphitheatres respecting safety measures.
Students in state universities and other higher institutions of learning effectively returned to their classrooms and amphitheaters on Monday, June 1 following the resumption of schools across the country.
In Yaounde, the resumption was effective in most campuses across the town as students received on-campus lectures for the first time in two months. However, these lectures were dished out by their lecturers in a completely different context marked by the spread of the COVID-19. Thus, it was not strange to see students and lecturers all putting on face masks, hand–washing points installed around campuses as well as hand sanitizers placed at the various entry points of the campuses. All these disposition taken by the various institutions impressed the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo who went out to some campuses not only to ensure classes had effectively resumed but also ensure the strict respect of the preventive measures His first stop was at the main campus of the University of Yaounde II, Soa, where lectures were effectively going on in some halls. He equally had the opportunity to witness the defense of some students of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences before continuing his tour which took him next to the National Advanced Schools of Public Works.
Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo also made a stop at some private institutes of learning, notably the Siantou University, the Saint Thérése Catholic University and the African Institute of Computer Sciences where he appreciated the measures taken to respect social distancing in lectures halls. He urged authorities of these institutions to ensure these measures are respected all the way and not only on the first days or weeks of school resumption.
The Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, rounded off his tour at the University of Yaounde 1, where he appreciated the work of students of the Advanced School of Technology who are producing masks and 3D protective kits. He was also taken round the laboratory of the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Science where hydro-alcoholic gels are being produced and distributed free of charge to students.
