After gruesome killing of Mamfe Mayor: Manyu turns to ‘juju swearing’ to neutralize Amba fighters.

After gruesome killing of Mamfe Mayor: Manyu turns to ‘juju swearing’ to neutralize Amba fighters.

The gruesome killing of the 35-year-old Mayor of Mamfe Council, Ashu Pristley Ojong, allegedly by separatists operating in Manyu Division, has marked a veritable turning point in the approach of the elite towards seeking a return to normalcy in their division. Realising that neither excessive force by the military nor going down on their knees to beg the Amba boys to drop their weapons and embrace normal life (as Nfor Tabetando did last year) have  produced the desired effect, the elite resorted to ‘juju swearing’ and placing a curse on the ‘bad boys’ and their bankrollers in a bid to neutralize them.

The staging of this ritual took place last Friday in Mamfe in the presence of the cream of Manyu elite, traditional rulers and the administration.

It should be noted that, for that past four years, Manyu has witnessed a lot of  bloodshed as a result of either ferocious sporadic attacks from the two warring factions, or organized military sorties to target Ambazonia camps. For instance the incidents that took place at Otu, Dadi, Kembong,  Mamfe , and Nchang amongst others, led to loss of many lives from the two warring factions.

After taking ample stock of previous acts of brutality and criminality by  separatists against the military and innocent civilians in Manyu Division, the SDO, for Manyu, Mr. Um Joseph 11, two weeks ago summoned the external and internal elite of the Division, for a more pragmatic  approach in handling the deepening hostilities in the land of Manyu. The outcome of this important rendez-vouz  at the Mamfe town hall was a  veritable consensus for the performance of some special mystical traditional rites, aimed at  targeting  all the separatists fighters qualified as trouble-makers in the land.

The juju swearing theory aimed at stopping  the barbaric and grusome acts  perpetrated by  Ambazonia terrorist cells in Manyu Division, was strongly supported and approved  by the Manyu hardline political class and notables from the four Subdivisions of the land, notably the Vice President of the Senate,  Nfor Tabetando; Minister Victor Mengot Arrey Nkongho; Technical Adviser at the Presidency of the Republic, Prof. Etchu George; the Paramount Chief of Mamfe town, HRM Dr OBEN Godson;  Mayor emeritus of Mamfe, Sesseko  Ayuk Takunchong John, including the traditional authorities of  the Division.

To fully buttress their strong determination and stance against the Amba insurgency in the land of Manyu , the elite organized an unprecedented mystical traditional juju swearing exercise at the Mamfe Grandstand on Friday June 4th 2020, where the Mbiam and Monijom of Manyu, as well as the Assonka of Jabude and Abeokuta from Nigeria invited their gods to place a wanton curse  on all secessionist fighters accused of fanning chaos and terror in Manyu Division..

“Enough is enough! We are here today to put an end to the grusome and barbaric activities perpetrated by people who tenaciously stand against development. Anyone or persons in the land of Manyu that supports the brutal and criminal actions of secessionist fighters, either by aiding them financially or by providing intelligence to them will henceforth face the wrath  of the gods. We are still ready to embrace all those boys in the bushes who are prepared to lay down their arms  and move on with their normal activities”, Takunchong remarked.

For his part ,the Paramount traditional leader of cosmopolitan Mamfe, HRM Nfor Dr. OBEN Godson, lamented bitterly over the high rate of bloodshed in the land of Manyu. He called on all Manyu sons and daughters at home and abroad to stand as one person in order to fight the common enemy.

Mayor Ashu Pristley Ojong decorated by the Head of State

The body of the  late enterprising and industrious Mayor Ashu Pristley, who was  killed  in cold blood by some unidentified gunmen on his way to his  Eshobi village in Mamfe Central ,some weeks ago, was lowered into the grave on Saturday June 6th 2020  in Mamfe town .

The  epic funeral  ceremony of the deceased that was  attended by over 2000 people  brought together representatives from  the Presidency of the Republic , the Central Committee of the CPDM, the administration and top Manyu dignitaries, notably  Senate Vice President Nfor Tabetando, the Minister of Special Duties at the Presidency of the Republic, Victor Arrey Mengot, Member of Parliament for Mamfe and Upper Bayang; the SDO of Manyu Division and his Etat Major, the Mayors, Religious authorities, traditional rulers and the press.

He was posthumously decorated by the personal representative of the Head of State, Minister Victor Mengot, with a medal of Valour, in tacit recognition of the services he relentlessly rendered to the State.

For his part, the Senate Vice President Nfor Tabetando, described late Mayor Ojong as an energetic young man who was ready to break new grounds. He condemned with all his energy the vicious and callous attitude of Eric Tataw, who is far away but controlling the reasoning and thinking of the youths of Manyu.

The Manyu philanthropist and political heavyweight further reiterated that all the youths in the bushes should return home and continue with their normal activities.

After all said and done, the world is anxiously waiting to see whether the  death of Mayor Ojong Kingsley would mark the beginning of a new dawn that could foster peace and decorum in Manyu Division.
