Kumba hospital director appeals for more specialist doctors.
The Director of the Kumba District Hospital, Dr Enongene Paul Ngang, has used the reception of some medical equipment and an ambulance donated by the Head of State to appeal for more specialist doctors.
The items were received at the esplanade of the Kumba District Hospital in the presence of the Senior Divisional Officer for Meme, Ntou’ou Ndong Chamberlin. Also present during the ceremony were the Paramount Ruler of the Bafaws, Nfon Ekoko Mukete, Senator Otte Andrew Mofa and Honourable Tabot Lawson Bakia.
Dr Enongene said the items donated would go a long way to ameliorate the health conditions of the hospital, coming at a time when the entire world has embarked on the fight against Covid-19. The ambulance, Dr Enougene noted, would facilitate the transportation and evacuation of patients, while the beds would go a long way to increase the intake of incoming patients. The hospital, he added, had an ambulance but was set ablaze by yet-to-be-identified persons along the Kumba-Buea stretch of road with critically ill patients as a result to the Anglophone crisis. Dr Enongene said the ambulance shall not go on the Kumba-Buea stretch of road until the insecurity there is brought under control.
The items sent by the Head of State comprised a medicalised ambulance, one hundred Hospital Beds, one hundred Hospital Mattresses, two Mobile x-Ray Machines, two portable Ultra –Sound machines and surgical kits.
Dr Enongene used the forum to thank the Head of State for his kind gesture, as well as Atanga Nji Paul, Minister of Territorial Administration, through whom the donations were channelled.
The gesture, Dr Enongene said, is a testimony that President Biya is thinking about his people which is why the Minister of Public Health, Dr Manouda Malachie, has signed a FCFA 650 million worth contract with Doh and Brothers Enterprise, given them a period of eight months to complete the reconstruction of the portion of the hospital which was consumed by fire. He appealed through the Regional Delegate for Public Health, Dr Ebongo Zack’s Nanje to the Minister of Public health to transfer more specialist doctors, general practitioners, nurses and lab technicians to meet up with the ever growing demands of the population.
He also proposed that the status of the hospital be uplifted to a Regional Hospital Annex.
On Covid-19, he noted that 22 washing points are operational at the hospital, alcohol, hand sanitizers are being provided to all consulting doctors, medical face masks are provided to health personnel and incoming patients, a five-bed capacity isolation ward has been erected for suspected cases, a management team for Covid-19 has been created, amongst others.
