Gang of two arrested in Yaounde.
Two men suspected of burgling at the home of a senior administrator in Yaounde have been arrested and presented to the press.
The two men were presented to the press by the Judicial Police on Friday, June 5, after they reportedly burgled at a home in the Nkolbisson neighbourhood on the night of May 19-20.
“Three individuals armed with machetes, rifles and tear gas held the occupants of the house, especially the owner, spellbound. After assaulting the owner of the house, they took away several items”, the head of the rapid intervention and investigations at the judicial police, Commissioner Ahmadou Babanguida said.
Among the items carried away on the night of the burglary were three television screens, two vehicles, other house equipment and a huge amount of money, evaluated in millions.
After the victim lodged a complaint at the judicial police, investigations were opened and 24-year-old ex-convict, Thomas Mbega Mvondo, was arrested before going to confess leading investigators to arrest the second suspect before going on to retrieve four guns, as well as other weapons and ammunition at their disposal.
“Their modus operandi consists of targeting the homes of personalities and businessmen, breaking into them overnight, holding the occupants hostage with their weapons, before taking away all the valuables”, Ahmadou Babanguida added.
Investigations continue to track down the third member of the gang who is still on the run.
