PM urges more protection for children in schools.
Prime Minister Joseph Ngute has called for more vigilance on campuses as pupils and students of certificate examination classes have resumed classes.
This call was directed to the various Ministers of Education on Thursday as the Head of Government chaired the weekly inter-ministerial meeting of the committee charged with coordinating efforts in the fight against Covid-19.
The PM instructed the Ministers to lay emphasis on the respect of barrier measures and the wearing of protective masks on school and university campuses, adding that temperatures should be taken with thermo flashes and hands disinfected at the entrance of each school or University.
In liaison with the Ministry of Public Health, the Education Ministers were called upon to set up a health monitoring system and specify the protocol to be followed in the event of a suspicious case of Covid-19 and to continue actions that are already being taken.
To avoid running into a risky situation, the school authorities were cautioned to ensure the permanent availability of health kits especially in rural areas. Apart from the instructions to the Ministers of Education, the PM also urged the Minister of Communication to continue awareness-raising activities through the media in order to reassure parents about the measures taken by government to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in schools and universities.
Thursday’s meeting which took place via video conference was also intended to have an update on the evolution of the pandemic in Cameroon, evaluate the measures in place to ensure the medical care of patients, have an account of the progress of the resumption of classes in the different levels of education and the state of progress on the repatriation of Cameroonians still stranded abroad.
