New structure launched to boost Covid-19 response.
A facility specialized in the importation and distribution of pharmaceuticals has been launched in Yaounde.
The structure was launched on Thursday, June 4, by the Minister of Public Health Dr Malachie Manaouda in the presence of the Korean Ambassador to Cameroon.
Set up within the framework of the fight against the COVID-19, the structure, Mediline Medical Cameroon SA, will focus on the importation and distribution of pharmaceutical products, supply chain, medical equipment, medical consumables, reagents and food supplements, Dr Malachie Manaouda said. For a start, it will have two logistics centres based in Douala and Yaoundé while for its logistical deployment, the company has a Cheyenne-type cargo plane with capacity of half a ton for the rapid and secure transportation of these products to the ten regions of Cameroon. The distribution chain is supported and secured by software that guarantees the management, tracking and traceability of all products, stakeholders said at the launch of the structure.
“Cameroon has these past years invested huge efforts in terms of health and continues to do so within this health crisis. I am delighted to see the setting up of this structure which is the fruit of the cooperation between our countries and we know it will go a long way to improve on the health of the population”, outgoing Korean Ambassador Bok Ryeol Rhyou said.
Lauding the cooperation between both countries in the sector of health, she reaffirmed her country’s strong commitment to assist Cameroon in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and called on the population to continue respecting government measures put in place to prevent the spread of the virus.
To the Minister of Public Health, Dr Malachie Manaouda, the setting up of the structure is an essential component in the response strategy to the COVID-19 pandemic, notably, the provision of rapid test kits that deliver results just after fifteen minutes. This, he said, is another manifestation of the excellent relations between Cameroon and Korea.
