Atanga Nji shares Biya’s COVID-19 freebie to education ministers.

The Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji ,on June 9, 2020 shared the special gift of President Paul Biya to the educational family. This took place in front of his ministerial building in the presence of education ministers of the country. Prof. Fame Ndongo of Higher Education, Prof. Nalova Lyonga of Secondary Education and Tchiroma Bakary of Employment and Vocational Training were present to receive the gifts for their various educational sectors.

The Secretary of State at the Ministry of Basic Education, Dr. Asheri Kilo,was also present to receive the gifts for primary schools.

The special gift, coming as part of government’s strategies to stop the spread of COVID-19, comprised mainly 170,000 face masks which will be shared in schools to pupils and students.

“I am very glad that the students of Cameroon have the opportunity to see for themselves what the head of state is doing on their behalf. I think this is symbolic of the determination of the leadership that we have,” said Prof Nalova Lyonga, the Secondary Education Minister, during the gift sharing ceremony.

According to Minister Paul Atanga Nji of Territorial Administration who shared the masks on behalf of his boss, President Paul Biya, the gifts were prepared for the four ministries represented above by the various Ministers. To the MINAT boss, the gesture reflects Biya’s commitment to fight against the spread of COVID-19 by wearing of face masks in public places as reiterated by Biya in his speech of 19 May 2020.

“The protection of life and wellbeing of Cameroonians is the responsibility of the head of state. He has never failed in his efforts. Today we are dealing with a life-threatening disease with no cure. The only way to avoid it is to protect ourselves by wearing masks and taking other measures”, highlighted Issa Tchiroma Bakary, the Minister of Employment and Vocational Training.

The Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Prof Fame Ndongo received 130,000masks for the Universities, while Prof. Nalova Lyonga received 15000face masks for Secondary Schools.

“I thank the head of state for this wonderful gift for pupils and students of our beloved country. We will use these masks with a lot of consciousness and commitment to eradicate this pandemic called coronavirus”, said Prof Fame Ndongo , as he received the cartons of gifts for Universities and other Higher Institutions.

Meanwhile, Dr.Asheri Kilo received 15000masks and Tchiroma Bakary received 10000masks all for Basic Education and Employment and Vocational Institutions, respectively.

“I remember last week when we visited our schools, we noticed that the younger children did not have masks. Some of their masks were adults’ masks. To our greatest surprise, when we made the comment, the head of state listened and today he has provided masks that are suitable for children of that age”, said Dr.Asheri Kilo.

The Ministers who received the gifts individually expressed their gratitude to the benefactor who thought of this gesture in time.

The Ministers are , however, expected to dispatch these masks to pupils and students in the earliest time possible, so that they may start using them to serve the purpose for which they were given.
