Covid-19: Artistes unite against misinformation.
Several artistes across Africa have united in an online concert to fight against the propagation of false information around the COVID-19.
The concert held last weekend was organized by the Red Cross and Facebook as part of the Africa Together campaign that was launched on June 1.
The organizers say their main goal is to guard against misinformation around the Covid-19 and call for vigilance in the face of the pandemic.
In a continent where over 100 000 cases have been recorded, the organizers say their aim of the Africa together is to combine musical and comic performances as well as information from humanitarian workers on the frontline and fact checkers to provide the population with survival information.
“The Covid-19 pandemic is an unprecedented (health) crisis, because it affects the world, without borders, ethnic or religious considerations. Africa rapidly reacted but the risk still remain real. If we all play our part, we will defeat this pandemic. Music can bring us together in fighting this pandemic and that is our objective”, Mamadou Sow, member of the International Movement of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said.
For her part, Joycelyne Muhutu, head of Face book’s strategic media partnership for Sub Sahara Africa, said the Initiative will enlighten Africans on the initiatives taken to fight against the pandemic across the continent.
Thus, the two-day festival was streamed live on Face book and saw the participation of several artistes like Cameroon’s Salatiel, Nigeria’s Patoranking and Femi Kuti, Ferre Gola from the DR Congo, Youssou Ndour from Senagal, Serge Beynaud (Cote d’Ivoire) and many other artistes.
The festival was hosted in English by popular Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha aka Basketmouth and in French by celebrated host Claudy Siar.
