Paul Biya offers vital items to health personnel.
A consignment of important protective equipment has been handed over to the Ministry of Public Health for onward distribution to health workers in the country.
The items were donated on behalf of President Paul Biya by Territorial Administration Minister, Paul Atanga Nji. They were received by Health Minister Dr Malachie Manaouda on Friday. “Within the framework of government’s response strategy against the spread of Covid-19, the Head of State Paul Biya has today offered a special gift to the Ministry of Public Health,” Atanga Nji said in statement. The items, he disclosed, include 100,000 surgical masks, 20 Res-Med brand respirators, 700 protective jumpsuits, 700 pairs of gloves and 700 caps.
“His Excellency Paul Biya, through this wonderful gesture to the medical crops, has again shown that the response against Covid-19 must be translated into concrete and effective action,” Atanga Nji told reporters after a ceremony to hand over the items at the Public Health Emergency Operations Centre in Yaounde.
Since the coronavirus was first reported in Cameroon March 6, health personnel have remained at the forefront, delivering much needed care to infected victims in various health facilities across the national territory. The plethora of challenges notwithstanding, they have continued to work with unrelenting commitment and dedication, amid to many risks they are exposed to given the surging number of cases daily.
Words of congratulations and comfort have come from several quarters, including from the President of the Republic himself during his May 19 address to the nation, in a bid to encourage them to continue to avail fellow citizens of critical services they need in these difficult times.
