Kumba health workers schooled on Covid-19 dangers.
A one-day sensitisation workshop on the deadly Coronavirus took place in Kumba,Chief town of Meme Division of the South West Region. The venue was the Kumba City Council Chambers. It was organized by the Regional Delegate for Public Health in the South West Region, Dr. Ebongo Zack's Nanje, with the aim of educating the public on Covid-19 and to debunk all rumours around concerning Covid-19 patients, burial and management of corpse.
While opening the seminar on Tuesday June 16 2020, the Senior Divisional Officer for Meme who was represented by the 2nd Assistant, Hermia Njonje, called on the participants to take the lectures seriously in order to better cater for the patients and suspected cases as well as educate their communities on what they have acquired for the training so as to curb the virus in our Division.
She said the government has resolved in eradicating the virus reasons why seminars like this are being organized to brief the local population on the dangers and need for them to be on the alert.
Earlier the City Mayor of the Kumba, Victor Nkelle Ngoh, called on a more stringent solution to manage Covid-19.He said there's no better way to manage the pandemic than to respect the measures put in place by the government and the World Health Organisation (W.H.O).
Participants who include health workers, caregivers and community leaders were schooled on topics such as; the global situation of Covid-19; identifying Covid-19 cases; demystifying myths of Covid-19 and the way forward.
Speakers at the workshop included the Regional Delegate of Public Health, Dr Ebongo Zach's Nanje, the District Medical Officer of the Kumba Health District, an Epidemologist from the Regional Delegation of Public Health in Buea. Each speaker took time to exhort the participants to always give the right information and ensure that the various measures are respected to the letter.
The D.M.O, Dr Emmanuel Lenya Nefenda, revealed at the seminar that Kumba has so far registered 65 confirmed Covid-19 cases with 3 deaths. Worthy of note is that Kumba is third most infected town in the South West Region after Buea and Limbe, according to Health experts.
The Regional Delegate or Public health for the South West Region, Dr Ebongo noted that the government would not gain anything as people continue to die rather the government needs the people for her economic growth. He disclosed that the seminar would take place in all the 18 health Districts of the South West Region.
