UB installs 68 newly appointed officials.
Selected during the June 8, 2020 appointments in the Ministry of Higher Education, the 68 appointees of mostly academic staff of the University of Buea were promoted to different positions such as; Vice Deans, Heads of Department, Heads of Division as well as Chiefs of Service.
The event, presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Horace Ngomo Manga, took place on June 17, at the Dorothy Limunga Njeuma Amphitheatre.
Addressing the appointees at the installation, Professor Horace Ngomo Manga, Vice Chancellor of the University, challenged them to put in their best in their duty posts to justify their promotion. The officials were equally told to be hard-working and provide quality services to the student body and the administration of the institution as this would significantly improve on teaching, research and outreach by the institution.
“The Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, realised that there were so many posts to be filled and some to be created. That is why he took the initiative to do what he just did and our responsibility was to ensure that we effectively commission these persons into their functions and let them know that much is expected from them. They must follow job definition and deliver on the expectations of the institution,“ Professor Horace Ngomo Manga noted.
Taking place within a specific context, that of the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic, UB’s VC encouraged them to join the institution in its commitment to fight against COVID-19. Some measures have already been instituted by the administration such as, the availability of hand washing points, the compulsory wearing of face masks, and the respect of social distancing within the academic milieu. The appointees are also expected to be respectful to hierarchy in the exercise of their duties. They equally promised to put in their best in the discharge of their functions and are hoping to get support from colleagues and other members of staff.
Dr. Andrew Eyoh Edjua, newly appointed Head of Department, Management Science HTTC-Kumba/UB, maintained that, he is ready to work for the good of the entire country. “I intend to work hand in glove with my hierarchy and show the students, public and the State that I can actually carry out the responsibility bestowed upon me. With a lot of collaboration from my colleagues I am confident we would have attractive but efficient programmes,” he said.
