Limbe inhabitants cry for a befitting market.
Limbe is a town of friendship with amusement parks, first-class hotels, the memorable Botanic Gardens and several beautiful beaches. People leave from abroad and even in nearby towns to converge on Limbe during weekends to enjoy the sweet breeze from the Atlantic Ocean. Fresh fish is abundant and the roads leading in and out of the town are all tarred.
But there is a blackspot that leaves many observers to open eyebrows. Limbe lacks a befitting market to crown its success story. Limbe does not have a main market commensurate to its status. If you visit what they call the Limbe Main Market situated centrally behind the famous Church Street, you will rub your face in mud with shame because it does not depict its prominence. The Limbe Main Market is not only shabby and ugly, but is also outrageous and a disgrace. Inside the market, you can hardly distinguish between the sellers and buyers. They are all exposed to mud, sun, rain or dust in the market. Fruits, fish, foodstuff, and vegetables are all displayed on bare ground. If it rains heavily in town, most sellers will not come to the market due to lack of shades and movement inside the market is problematic. “We the people of Limbe are yearning to see a befitting market built for us. This is our main cry!” a food vendor told Cameroon Insider. This cry is echoed by a hawker who says: “The Council authorities should do something to ameliorate our conditions in this market. It is not the best”.
