Ahead of 7 July elections at Chamber of Commerce: Nfon Mukete IV Ekoko, incumbent veepee of CCIMC, counts achievements.
The Cameroon Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Crafts (CCIMC) is often perceived as a white elephant because it seems to be doing little or nothing to advise the Cameroon government on adopting beneficial trade and employment policies for the growth of the economy.
But Nfon Mukete IV Ekoko, incumbent veepee of CCIMC, says CCIMC has helped to improve competitiveness of the Cameroonian economy.
Ahead of elections in the Chamber of Commerce, slated for 7 July, Ekoko who was recently handed chieftaincy attributes to the Bafaw royal stool by his ageing father, Nfon V.E. Mukete, elaborated on some of the achievements of the trade advisory body.
In a recent interview granted the bilingual daily Cameroon Tribune, he said that the Cameroonian public and the business community are the direct beneficiaries of the services of the institution which serves as an intermediary between the public sector and the private sector, with main mission to modernizing and monitoring the economic situation.
Quizzed on the major achievements of the institution for the past years since its creation and the future projects envisaged by the CCIMC, Nfon Mukete IV Ekoko said, during the past few years, they have succeeded in rendering different national sectoral development strategies effectively operational by encouraging private investment as well as improving on the competitiveness of the economy through the reduction of cost of production and upgrading of enterprises.
The second generation pilots incubation center (PIC) in Bwadibo Douala is one of the CCIMC’s key contributions to the development of local technical know-how especially in the domain of agricultural transformation, he quipped.
He went further that, the pilot incubation center which is intended to be replicated in other regions of Cameroon will in the near future accommodate institutions specialized in the training of top grade engineers and experts in multiple domains.
One crucial indicator of the determination of the Cameroon Chamber of Commerce, we are told, is to add more impetus into the enterprise sector to help fight off youth unemployment in the pro-youth and gender connect program code-named "Archipelago" .
The multiple disciplinary and gender inclusive programs intend to train close to 500 youths within a short period of time so as to improve quality of production and reduce the technological deficit in the enterprise sector, he added.
Nfon Mukete IV Ekoko concluded that CCIMC is more than ever preoccupied with the concerns of the enterprise sector.
'We will double efforts to assist the government and other stakeholders promote export, local goods and services that target mostly areas with trade deficit as well as sectors with potential growth.
Going by the vice president Nfon Mukete IV Ekoko the upcoming elections this Tuesday July 7 will be seen as an opportunity to bring together fine minds in the business community to deliver the goods.
