Fighting Covid-19: Red Cross equips Cameroon’s national security.
Members of Cameroon’s police force are exposed to the pandemic more than other Cameroonians. It is cognizant of this reality that a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross, Central Africa branch, made a donation of sanitary materials and protective equipment to the General Delegation of National Security last Tuesday, June 23, 2020. The equipment included overshoes, packs of care gloves, surgical masks, protective glasses and hydro-alcoholic disinfectants.
Receiving the gifts, the General Inspector representing the Delegate General for National Security, said Cameroon’s defense and security forces do not take the coronavirus pandemic lightly which is why, elements are deployed on the ground to control the systematic warning of protective masks, respect social distancing, among others. This, he insisted, to ensure that both the population and the police do not become vectors of the pandemic.
“We should be the first to be spared from this pandemic,” said the Police Inspector, while expressing the wish that the collaboration that already exists between the International Committee of the Red Cross and the General Delegation of National Security might soon extend to the field of training. Explaining the motives of the International Committee of the Red Cross, an official of the organisation, Philippe Cholous, appreciated the deployment of the police on the ground, since the outbreak of Covid-19 to ensure compliance with the barrier measures rolled out by the government.
