Bamenda II municipality now has a new Divisional Officer. Mr Nicholas Nkongho Manchang was handed the command baton by Mezam SDO Simon Emile Mooh in a strict administrative style and fashion at the temporary site of the Bamenda 2 Council.
He steps into Bamenda 2, hub of economic activities of the North West region, with a daunting task. Nicholas Nkongho Manchang, former D.O for Belo, was appointed by the recent presidential decree to man the affairs of a municipality whose friendly inhabitants indulge into diverse economic endeavours to make a living. Noted for being the home of prominent political, economic and social figures, Bamenda which had been hailed as a land of peace has suddenly embraced violence in the wake of Anglophone crisis.
The new DO therefore has the daunting task to restore peace, boost economic activities and ensure the regular participation of masses in all public activities notably 11th February,20 May, Labour day amongst others, by putting an end to lockdowns declared on these days.
Nkongho Manchang takes over a division amidst deafening insecurity, the height of which was the murder and dumping of a lifeless body at Travellers neighborhood.
In addition, the Bamenda 2 Council relocated to Old Town, few meters away from the judicial police post, abandoning their council premises at Mbingfibe. It should be his duty to take the council back to its previous premises.The recent power outages, water shortage,destruction of high tension electricity transmission lines of 90kv, poor drainage systems are amongst the numerous challenges the masses are expecting their new D.O to address.
The ceremony was attended by municipal, religious, traditional authorities as well as close aides.
