An incriminated postmaster has told the Special Criminal Court (TCS) he was bewitched by a customer leading to the disappearance of some 60 million FCFa from his coffers in Akono, Mefou and Akono Division of the Centre Region.
Bouba Jean, ex-postmaster in Akono told the college of judges at the TCS recently in Yaounde that one Modibo who came to open an account and save a million FCFA sometime in September last year resorted to telling his beads, causing him to fall into a trance. By the time he regained consciousness, the client had left, Bouba Jean claimed. But it was the day after that a customer from a cooperative showed up to withdraw money that he discovered the safe was empty.
The college of judges did not fall to this trick of his and unanimously slammed the former Akono postmaster between 2015 and 2018 a 12-year imprisonment term. A warrant was issued at the court for him to serve his term. The convict will have to pay the state 59,461,285 francs. He will also have to foot the bill for the publication of the judgment in Cameroon Tribune.
It was a 26 November 2018 ruling of the examining judge of the TCS that constrained Bouba Jean to appear before the court to answer charges of embezzlement of 59,461,285 francs to the detriment of Cameroon Postal Services (CAMPOST). This was after a control mission of CAMPOST sent on 14 September 2018 discovered the deficit. It also found the former postmaster guilty of keeping more than the statutory 5 million FCFA in his coffers.
